Ask me… about living with a mental illness.

About one in five adult in the US will experience mental illness in a given year. Those one in five include doctors, moms, children, CEOs, friends, etc. No one should feel obligated to disclose their mental illness to everyone, but no one should have to feel stigmatized if they do share. There is nothing inherently wrong with living with a mental illness. Mental illness and “normal” are not mutually exclusive.

“Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S., the 3rd leading cause of death for people aged 10–24 and the 2nd leading cause of death for people aged 15–24.” So let’s try and do whatever possible to reduce the stigma of living with mental illness through representation of our own stories.
